RPD: First Topics Picked in Mississippi

16th in a 2022 Series*

Topics are set for the first two Community Forums in the Mississippi launch next month of the transformative strategy near and dear to The Relevance Project. It’s interesting that without collaboration or coordination, the Sun Herald in Biloxi and the Enterprise-Journal in McComb picked the same issue to probe — How does a community confront “brain drain” and find ways to retain its young talent? A powerful, front-burner topic in Mississippi. Jumping ahead: These initial Community Forums could expand to a statewide effort to solve this important problem. The background: The Biloxi-Gulfport Community Forum is scheduled for Feb. 16 and the one in McComb will be the next day, Feb. 17. (We are watching COVID news to ensure safety.) They are the first of four events as part of the Community Forum Project in pioneer Mississippi. (A previous Relevant Point announced the launch.) The hosts of the other two events will be announced soon. Thanks again to our participating newspapers, the Mississippi Humanities Council, and Mississippi Press Association’s Education Foundation for their spirited partnership powering the Community Forum Project. Stay tuned for updates.

-Tom Silvestri, Executive Director, The Relevance Project

*ABOUT THE SERIES: Our goal is to share a Relevant Point of the Day (RPD) each weekday throughout 2022. Our target is at least 222. Thank you for supporting The Relevance Project. Your success is our focus.
